Good slots at big festivals, highly acclaimed co-operations, support tour for DEPECHE MODE – Anders TRENTEMØLLER’s furious development to one of the most praised electronic artists of our time goes on. And he seems to take it with routine and childish amazement at the same time. To put it right, he is not an “electronic” artist anymore. Maybe that is one of the secrets of his success. He is a band, a remixer, a songwriter and performer, and a musical anarchist. He defines his music not to be defined.

TRENTEMØLLER can play a techno club and a world music festival or perform in a classic concert hall. After the successful last years, he had the choice. Either you create an image of the genius who blesses the world with his ideas or you see yourself as a hard working musician who doesn’t really know why all this happens. TRENTEMØLLER chose the last option. With this attitude and his never ending urge to re-invent his music, he now releases his third studio album Lost.

Lost is not more monumental than the previous Into the great wide yonder, it has not more pop appeal than the Remixed-Reworked and it is not another band album as the recent live record suggests. Lost appears as a collection of what he was writing over the years without following a master plan. This is not necessarily a problem. TRENTEMØLLER is his own master plan, having many edges as we know. Through his success he now has the freedom to do whatever he wants and find listeners who are attracted by the trademark TRENTEMØLLER.

His new work shows more of his calmer sides dominated by co-operations with singers in heartfelt and dark pieces. Relaxed, flowing and even sometimes a bit indifferent. That means the big red line seems to be missing, if you miss such a thing anyway. If not, Lost is a great record to wander, to cry, dream and love. As this is written, I sit on a train and listen to Trails. The only thing that’s missing to this situation, is a bunch of bandits, horse-riding besides the train to hijack it – Tarantino style. Just as you think you know what’s happening, the track turns into a trip-hop ending with all influences the Danish scene has to offer.

As usual, the co-operation with other artists is a main strength of the album. Different individual voices give each song a unique touch. If it is the track with Marie Fisker who we know from other TRENTEMØLLERsongs or the dark and haunting Deceive, featuring Sune Rose Wagner from THE RAVEONETTES. TRENTEMØLLER did it again, he wrote the record to your personal movie. More than ever, the new album needs some time to get into. You need to find your own path but then, let’s get lost!
