The 10th installment of Poland’s forward-thinking festival TAURON NOWA MUZYKA combines the most creative and emerging electronica artistes and veterans alike; while placing them in an unlikely location: the New Silesian Museum, now standing on a once fully functional coal mine for over a century, the KWK Katowice.

Earning the European Festivals Award for Best Small European Festival for three years, TAURON NOWA MUZYKA’s winning formula seems to boil down to a simple equation: having had the likes of MODERAT, FLYING LOTUS, the BONOBO Live Band, ONRA and JON HOPKINS performing in post-industrial surroundings. In addition, it is also the first and only outdoor festival to be held in a well-preserved cultural venue, with warehouses, interpretive art installations and even church pews add a twinge of historical merit while revelers are being immersed in contemporary music.

True to TAURON’s maxim in introducing the freshest electronic music to the Polish community, there will be a special showcase by Katowice native and founder of Mikmusik Wojciech Kucharczyk. Carbon Central is an opportune platform for up and coming Eastern European electronica acts to put their works on show. You can find he full line-up at the official homepage. Besides notable big players like RHYE, TYLER, THE CREATOR and APPARAT there are six special performances NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is definitely looking forward to this year.

NBHAP’s 6 anticipated performances at Tauron Nowa Muzyka 2015:

1. Nils Frahm

Known for his unconventional approach and obsession with the piano and synthesizers, Berlin-based NILS FRAHM’s forte is his seamless combination of electronic and classical music. In 2014, FRAHM introduced his new piano, the UNA CORDA, which weighs under 100kg and has one string per key, instead of the usual three strings. FRAHM is also the initiator of Piano Day, which celebrates the invention of the piano on the 88th day of every year.

2. Jeff Mills and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra

One of the biggest American names in techno, JEFF MILLS definitely needs no introduction to electronic music purveyors. A founding member of the Detroit techno collective Underground Resistance, MILLS’ partnership with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra would definitely raise a few eyebrows, along with maximum interest.

3. Objekt
Berlin-based TJ Hertz, better known as OBJEKT, has been perking up eardrums ever since he released his debut 12” on his own label in 2011. Formerly working for music software company Native Instruments making signal-processing algorithms, he released his debut album, Flatland last year on Berlin’s PAN label.

4. The Juan MacLean

Fans of New York City dance-punk label DFA Records would credit most of its reputation to John Maclean, the man behind electronic outfits THE JUAN MACLEAN and LCD SOUNDSYSTEM with singer Nancy Whang. Previously a guitarist for post-hardcore band SIX FINGER SATELLTIE, MACLEAN went out of music for a number of years before returning, experimenting with modern electronic equipment and teaming up with Whang. THE JUAN MACLEAN released their third studio album, In A Dream, in September 2014.

5. Krojc

Experimental ambient musician Jakub Pokorski is surely one to watch when it comes to the Polish music scene. Professionally trained in guitar, he released four solo LPs under the moniker KROJC, and has other works under his other project POKORSKI. Along with his music, POKORSKI also runs a record label, InnerGun Records.

6. Ventolin

In recent times, music made with analog synthesizers has been the rage. Czech Republic-based David Doubek, also known as VENTOLIN, bypasses the hype and crafts musical atmospheres out of old samplers, sequencers and synthesizers that he has collected over the years. His music is a gentle combination of acid techno, italo and Indian disco and old 70s soundwaves.

If these aren’t enough reasons to be part of the experience, we got some little extra motivation as NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is giving away 1×2 tickets for the event. All you have to do is to write an e-mail to win@nbhap.com with the subject ‘Tauron Nowa Muzyka’ and your full name. The competition runs til July 15.
