But who wouldn’t mind with such a sweet single as Misery – honest, catchy, pure and packed with all the ingredients lovers of delicate indie-pop melodies might fall for. Well, us included. The trio Varley consits of Dublin-born Claire-Ann and her German band mates Joschka Bender and Matthias Heising and following a successful reign of singles they are about to finally drop their debut album Smalltalk & DMCs later this week. Inspired by old favourites like Fleetwood Mac, The Cardigans as well as Phoebe Bridgers the three-piece unfolds a melody-loving timeless sound that might not be the most progressive or edgy one but comes with other carthartic qualities.
Despite being titled Misery their latest single is actually quite an euphoric affair. It’s a song that’s about living in the moment while also reminding you to take care of each other and the world around you. Yes, it may sound simple but maybe that’s because it actually is, right? Three Minutes of indie pop heaven to forget about all the miserable and negative stuff that’s approaching you. Well, you can definitely count us in for that mood on a Monday, right?
