British low-frequency experimenters James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas – better known as EMPTYSET – just released a new EP named Material. Consisting of extracts from site-specific live performances, the primary theme of the EP Material is the staggering architecture of three different localities: The disused nuclear power station at Trawsfynydd in Gwynedd, Wales. The Ambika P3 in London that is a 14,000 square foot space for contemporary art and architecture. And the Chislehurst Caves – a 35 km long series of tunnels which were entirely man-made and were dug within a time of 6000 years.
The result is a work of absolutely stunning spacial sound art between the fields of dark ambient, industrial, rhythmic noise and bass music experimentalism. Another great release from Subtext Recordings after EMPTYSET‘s excursion to Raster-Noton. And a foretaste of their live performance at the upcoming DONAUFESTIVAL.
