After being busy with DARKSIDE for most of the recent years, it seems as if NICOLAS JAAR is fully back on track as a solo artist now. While his Nymphs EP series is going into round III next week (June 29 via Other People) he furthermore revealed a whole new record out of the blue via his facebook. And the best thing is: Pomegranates is for free. You can download the 20 song accompanied by artwork and a personal note of NICOLAS JAAR himself right here. Careful followers might have already heard about this piece as JAAR uploaded it to his label’s YouTube around this year’s Oscar celebrations. But since it’s not available anymore, this move is even more charming.

Pomegranates soundtracks a 1969 Sovjet avantgarde film called The Color Of Pomegranates although it’s more of an abstract but surprisingly fitting collection of ambient tracks that JAAR collected over the last 2 years. According to his note, he states:

I started making most of the music that is found on ‘Pomegranates’ before I had seen the movie or was aware of its existence. The film gave me a structure to follow and themes to stick to. It gave clarity to this music that was made mostly out of and through chaos.

So, sorry no fancy stream here for you today. But a delicate piece of ambient work from the great NICOLAS JAAR should make up for that.
