Who is it?
New material from beloved Canadian synthpop group YOUNG GALAXY. To be fair, they aren’t excatly what you would call a new act. They already compiled a guestmix for NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION back in 2013, to begin with. But this new track, their first one since, 2015’s Falsework LP is another example of the tender quality vocalist Catherine McCandless and her band constantly provide for over a decade now. Stay For Real is their first true independent release without a big label behind them.
Why should you listen to it?
Aside from its musical quality the new YOUNG GALAXY material was also produced for a good cause. The band teamed up with Plus1 so all net proceeds from the sale of the song go to defending the rights of the marginalized through PIVOT (Canada), ACLU (USA), and W.A.V.E (EU). In the wake of current political events in the United States these values are more important than ever as they also state:
‘We can no longer stand idly by and rely only on the people who shape the world for us culturally and politically. We must stay true to ourselves and feel the courage of our convictions in the face of polarizing political and personal views. But most of all, we must show empathy, compassion and love – even when faced with increasing existential threats, and fear and hostility. This song is a statement of intent, as we enter a new era, to hopefully serve as a reminder to ourselves of what our responsibilities are as artists in this troubled time.’
