Let’s face it – mixing classic music with contemporary electronic sounds isn’t the most innovative thing in the year 2015. Plenty of other artists have done it before but quite often you get the feeling as if those two musical worlds won’t fit that perfectly together as you originally thought they would. They might work in harmonic co-existence but they’re not really matching. KIASMOS took a different approach right from the start. It’s not about mixing ÓLAFUR ARNALDS‘ neo classical-world and the electropop-setting of BLOODGROUP mastermind Janus Rasmussen together – it’s just the clash of two quite talented musicians.
The Perfect Symbiosis
The BAFTA-winning composer from Iceland and the crafted pop musician from the Faroe Islands met back when ARNALDS was a sound designer for Rasmussen’s group. Something he also told NOTHIN BUT HOPE AND PASSION in an interview last summer. After already working together on several tracks the two friends finally took KIASMOS to the next level with their self-titled debut album. The record feels like the journey to an unknown cosmos, a perfect symbioses between the two talented musicians, like a techno-album with a solid musical foundation and far more. And if we understand Mr. ARNALDS correctly it’s up to you what you make out of it. ‘I find it much more interesting when people interpret it in different ways,’ he told us back then. ‘It means something completely different to you than to another person.’ KIASMOS will definitely be one of the highlights at the Eurosonic Noorderslag 2015.
Eurosonic Noorderslag is the key exchange and networking platform for European music, with a proven track record for helping new acts to establish themselves in other countries. The event will take place from January 14 to 17.
