Who is it?
The beloved German wave/ post-punk two piece which made it into NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s ‘Sound Of ’17’ class earlier this year. Yes, we know, we recently already had LEA PORCELAIN as Daily Tune with their pumping new single Bones and it wasn’t the plan to feature them again so quickly but… well, then this cover of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN‘s legendary 1993 single Streets Of Philadelphia happened and you might understand why we make an exception here.
Why should you listen to it?
If you grew up in the 90s the heart-wrenching, Tom Hanks-starring AIDS-drama Philadelphia was a must-watch and the haunting title-track by ‘The Boss’ surely was one reason for that. Julien Bracht and Markus Nikolaus of LEA PORCELAIN felt the same way and recorded it right before Christmas as a special gift to friends and family. They explain the choice with the following words:
‘We remembered that for some reason we would always blast this song through our stereo at home and it was kind of a homecoming song during our recording period. One day before we drove down to the family for Christmas, we spent a night covering this song and in various versions, this is the version that we came up with that sounds fully like us and we would give this song to everyone of our family and friends to listen to and to thank them for their support, their understanding and their love.’
The duo adds a certain gloomy goth-twist to the track but doesn’t take away its magic which is nice.
What’s next?
Well, not mot has changed within the last weeks. We’re still waiting for the LEA PORCELAIN album which will hopefully arrive later in 2017. Fans of THE CURE, BAUHAUS and JOY DIVISION should keep these guys on their radar anyway.
Everyday we’re adding NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s Daily Tune to our ongoing Spotify playlist, packed with all the hidden treasures by those talented newcomers you need to know. Listen and follow right here.
