What attracts people to the sea? Is it its restless chracter, the sense of endlessness you get when you’re looking for a line on the horizon? Or is it the steady sound of crashing waves which softens our soul? It might be a mixture of everyhing and acclaimed German composer CHRISTIAN LÖFFLER is just one of many creative people who got attracted by that special scenery. The theme of the sea defines his new album Mare, out on October 7 via Ki Records. While the praised 2011 predecessor A Forest was mainly based on samples this new LP surprises with a way more organic sound, partly due to field recordings, guest vocals from ME SUCCEEDS‘ singer Mohna and himself debuting as vocalist as well.
Recording closely to the Baltic Sea has clearly shaped Mare and also this really sweet NBHAP Guestmix that CHRISTIAN LÖFFLER produced exclusively for our and your delight. This isn’t a purely electronic ride, there are plenty of musical surprises on the way you usually won’t find in one of his sets. Or as he puts it in his own words:
‘For this mix I went through my record collection looking for songs related to the sea. I found some older favorites like The New Amsterdams or Mojave 3 with ‘Bluebird Of Happiness’ which really takes me back to the time when I was around the age of 20. Also there is one song from the Album Sturm of Notwist which was very inspiring in ambiance and sound design to me. Obviously I’m a great fan of Icelandic music and especially of Pascal Pinon. The vibe and atmosphere fits this compilation perfectly.’
This is the perfect mix to embrace the arrival of autumn we think, whether you are close to the sea or not. Enjoy this dose of melancholia right here.
