Another year goes by and it was... well, definitely different than the last one but still quite weird. The second consecutive Covid year was a rollercoaster ride of emotions where hope and despair went hand in hand and we're surely finished yet. Luckily, this resulted in quite outstanding musical releases which gave us much needed comfort and distraction in these difficult times. Today, we're honouring the fifty records that meant the most to us in the past twelve months.
Every Friday music fans are faced with the same burning question: What to listen to from the sheer endless sea of new albums, EPs and other releases? Following their triumphant first impact with their 2019 debut "Schlagenheim" British 'hard-to-define'- guitar rockers Black Midi are about to return with an even wilder follow-up these days. This band continues to fascinate the listener with their artistic determination and their impressive musical qualities. Created in during the lockdown and without guitarist Matt Kwasniewski-Kevin who took a break from the band "Cavalcade" is a triumphant return. NBHAP author Tamsin Paternoster phoned up the band to talk about the record.
A time of fundamental crisis tends to create impressive art and right now there’s an incredible amount of exciting new bands that take elements of previous independent rock incarnations and adds a modern twist to it. Maybe the age of creating band hypes is over but NBHAP author Norman tried it anyway and invites all fellow old “indie heads” like him to jump on this bandwagon.
