Freja Drakenberg (Draken means Dragon in Swedish) didn’t have to go far to find her artist name. Freja The Dragon sees her step out as a solo artist, after years as a Peter, Bjorn And John collaborator (she’s toured with them as a live member), with 2019 witnessing the release of her first couple of singles. The latest, Give It All Up, will have plenty for fans of the rich, classical pop that’s been strong in Sweden over the past decade, with its detailed composition and Freja‘s feathertouch vocal waking echoes of Amason and Alice Boman. But her music leans in a heavier direction than those artists, and Give It All Up eventually evolves into something darker and more raw, with a stormy chorus sounds like something fighting their demons with all their might. It’s out now, and her debut EP is on its way.
