Over the last couple of years music writers got very excited and sweaty about the idea of the monogenre, the idea that all music genres were blurring together and would eventually reach a vanishing point where all fused into one broad, sacred whole. This, like all big ideas music writers have, is still of vague credibility, but the song we’re discussing today could be seen as a counterpoint. Tight Grip, the lead single from Sweden-born, Japan-based artist High Cheru‘s new EP, is more flexi-genre than monogenre. cannibalising from several genres and stitching them together into a whole.
