Jouska are the Oslo duo who make pop songs that shift and bend like funhouse mirrors, and their new single Beverly Mind is no exception to that formula. But whereas a lot of their earlier songs were heavier and more bubbly, big waves of synths crashing into choruses, Beverly Mind is a song that steps much more lightly. Over a musical background of soft, airy synths that could come from a late-period Phoenix song, it’s a piece of mutating art-pop, full of the glitches and gloops they’ve made their trademark, crowned with a sighing chorus that’s got one of the most subtle, but inviting melodies they’ve written to date. Keep an eye out for a debut album, rumoured to be on the way soon.
