If you’re feeling melancholy and in need of an alt-indie anthem that captures your angst at the current worldwide situation, you might just have it in Amaroun’s latest single Talk. Out now via Square Leg Records, it’s a track that keeps you guessing throughout and refuses to squash into any genre pigeon-hole you could think of. Described in her press release as “Kaleidoscopic Pop”, I think that’s about as good a label as you can stick on Amaroun. Fast building a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting new songwriters with support from 6Music and Radio 1, as well as key performances across the country – Self-confessed emo-kid Amaroun sits somewhere between Erykah Badu, PJ Harvey and Massive Attack. Not a bad place to be sat i’m sure you’ll agree and with Talk she pulled in the production skills of Charles Watson (Slowclub) and Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, Marika Hackman). The result is a track that ebbs and flows between ambient guitar-laced breakdown sections and punchy, syncopated rhythm sections. It’s a potent recipe and only furthers her growing reputation as a rising talent in Blighty.
