Once they burned, but now they’re back in a whole new way. The word ‘witch’ still has a power attached to it, and Swedish artist Mira Aasma is the latest to subvert and reclaim that power for her own. Witches is her ode to female strength and it takes the heavy synth music of last year’s self-titled debut album in a poppier direction. Witches has less weight about it that the songs on that debut musically, instead opting for colourful synth bounce and a slow, graceful rhythm, a pop song that flicks between dreamy and dramatic with immaculate style. And it’s got a video that revels in witching hour power and spirit. The song is out now on Birds.
