Soccer Mommy’s new song Your Dog is the perfect soundtrack to the ‘quick burst of motivation’ that is usual for the turn of the year. Together with its flagrant video, it presents someone finding (momentary) strength after feeling weak in a relationship for a long time. Sophie Allison manages to reflect the universal feeling of being torn between vulnerability (‘Forehead kisses break my knees in’) and confrontation (‘I don’t want to be your fucking dog’) in a difficult situation, supported by bittersweet guitar and bass lines. Luckily, this song is not a ‘quick burst’ as well but part of Soccer Mommy’s first album Clean which is due in March this year via Fat Possum.
