Pick Up The “Telephone”, Lou Hayter Got A Smooth Pop Treasure Waiting For You

The older indie kids among you might remember Mercury Prize nominated 2000s collective New Young Pony Club (especially that irresistible Ice Cream track). Lou Hayter used to be part of that group so you shouldn’t be surprised about the dedicated retro pop vibe of her music at all. Telephone is the latest single off her forthcoming debut LP Private Sunshine and it’s pure funk-infected 80s r&b with electronic music influences. Very smooth, very sensual, way too catchy. This could really soundtrack the pool party of a fancy 80s movie. And of course, there’s also a saxophone solo waiting for you towards the end of the track, so don’t act surprised. “I started making pop tunes in hip hop kind of way by sampling and looping and then it opened up a whole new world of making music for me,” Hayter explains and according to her Telephone is one of the first songs she made like this. Needless to say, I’m all in for that laid back summery tune. Private Sunshine is out on May 28, just in time for the sunny season.
