Close Talker – ‘Carefully in the Dark’

You know you’re getting old when a track like Carefully In The Dark evokes nostalgic feelings in you. Yes, there’s something quite old-fashioned and traditional in the indie rock of Canadian three-piece Close Talker; something that takes you right back to the heydays of groups like Nada Surf, Death Cab For Cutie and Grandaddy. The group’s freshly released full-length How Do We Stay Here? is already their third studio album and it’s packed with even more guitar pop gems in the style of this one. Carefully In The Dark rides on a smooth groove and spreads sinister solace that will definitely warm your old indie hearts. Close Talker sum it up pretty well in the press release when they say:I think that communal element of music or the ability to enter a space where you can slow your mind and simply enjoy yourself is something that we chase as a band, and our hope is that the audience would join us.” Well, we couldn’t have said it any better.
