German Composer Frieder Nagel Unfolds Reflective Ambient Vibes On “Dawn”

Calming down is not the worst thing one can do following this rollercoaster ride of a year and this meditative new piece by German composer Frieder Nagel might help here. Dawn is a reflective, yet adventurous piece of instrumental ambient sweetness, built around a playful, partly improvised rhodes melody that finds itself surrounded by delicate layers and gentle electronic beats. It’s the perfect piece of music to get you started on a cold and grey Monday morning, if you ask me. According to Nagel the song “is about the strange feeling that one can sense when the first birds start to sing in the morning – something in between farewell and a new beginning” and I don’t know about you but I really dig that interpretation. The song is featured on Ambient Layers, a new compilation from 7K! records and it’s the artists first release on the acclaimed label. The accompanied black and white visuals surely help to underline the wonderful vibe of this song.
