Is it too soon to be talking about a challenge to Olivia Rodrigo’s pop throne? Probably. But if anyone is going to mount that challenge, you’d have to bet heavily on Gracie Abrams. In fact, Abrams’ debut 2020 EP Minor was cited by Rodrigo as an inspiration for Driver’s Licence, so perhaps it’s not surprising that there’s some overlap. Such is the calibre of the pop being delivered by the American singer that she’s yet to put a foot wrong. And latest single Feels Like is no exception, taking the lead in a long line of storming releases. From the opening “Oh” to the closing piano chord, Feels Like is a gorgeous emotional rollercoaster that showcases the 22-year old’s ability to tune into a generational mindset, carried along on delicate harmonies and rhythmic percussion. A platinum voice to boot, this is Taylor Swift level pop, and based on this latest single it’s a matter of when Abrams star explodes, rather than if. With two sold out shows at Omeara in London to look forward to at the end of October, you’ll need to be quick to catch Abrams at a venue this intimate again.
