After last years Any Random Kindness HÆLOS returned with a series of stand-along singles this year that now resilt on a new EP called I’m There. With their Massive-Attack-reminiscent indie electronica arrangements they make the title-track of this EP as intoxicating as their previous work. The intricate synth layers provide the perfect background for the vocals of Arthur Delaney and Lotti Benardout. I’m There is mellow and intense at the same time shifting from tender stripped back verses to the raging sound collages of the chorus. It is not the silence before the storm but the eerie calm of the storm’s eye, the tension of the song resembles. While the quartet is great at merging instruments to thunderous and colorful soundscapes, they also know how to let each instrument breathe. Playing with live drums and other analogue instruments in addition to synthesizers gives HÆLOS a special depth of sound and we’re still very happy to have them around.
