Canadian artist Helena Deland has been making waves in the indie scene for a few years now. Following shows with Weyes Blood, Conan Mockasin and even Iggy Pop she now returns with a sparkling new single called Lylz, the first piece of new music since her critically praised EP series Altogether Unaccompanied from 2018. It’s a really lovely dose of shimmering dream pop she offers on this one. The track also works as a tribute to French composer Lili Boulanger as well as one to Deland‘s good friend Lylz. She took Helena to a concert of Boulanger whose music was passionately spread by her sister Nadia, following the composer’s untimely death. That aspect of sisterhood laid the groundwork for this ode to friendship, born out of mutual esteem and “fanned by the flames of worldly dissatisfaction” as the artist describes it. Yeah, you can really feel the love in this one and hopefully we’ll get more musical activity from Helena Deland in the not so distant future.
