Lala Lala – ‘Destroyer’

‘You are the reason my heart broke behind my back’, sings Lillie West of Lala Lala in the chorus of Destroyer, after a noisy start and pulsating verses, making it clear that the band’s DIY indie pop is highly charged with honesty and emotion. Born in London and now based in Chicago, West started Lala Lala as an outlet for things she couldn’t process and express otherwise. Thus, their self-released debut album Sleepyhead from 2016 deals with West’s struggles while growing up, namely addiction, relationships and self-destruction. West decided to quit drinking and Destroyer shows a new sense of clarity and hopefulness, but still has an agonizing twist. The same is announced for the accompanying album The Lamb, due on September 28 via Hardly Art, so watch out.
