Leif Erikson – ‘Matter’

Leif Erikson is not just the name of that famous Icelandic who discovered America by accident AND the title of one of my favourite Interpol tracks BUT also the name of this great new band from London. Carried by a playful piano melody the five-piece around leading man Sam Johnston delivers dreamy indie rock melancholia that can’t deny its jazz vibes, making them somehow sound like a missing link between Starsailor and Foals. Matter might be a more melancholic affair but it also got that quite tempting and soulful groove that was partly inspired by Curtis Mayfield as the band says. It’s wonderful music to lose yourself in and hopefully we get to here more from Leif Erikson in the not so distant future.
