Maven Grace – ‘Darkness’

You must be doing something really right if you manage to get an established band like Goldfrapp to produce a remix for a song on your debut EP, right? That indeed happened to British two-piece Maven Grace whose latest single Darkness was indeed reworked by the synthpop icons. The original version, however, is also pretty astonishing. It’s a shimmering piece of majestic wave pop that not only channels Goldfrapp but also Chromatics and Cocteau Twins. Singer Mary Douglas-Home’s voice got this remarkable crystalline character that really gets my attention here. It’s sensual and sparkling pop for the twilight hours and it makes one quite excited about future musical endeavours of Maven Grace. If you like what you hear: Their debut EP INTRO is out now.
