If London-based songwriter Nilüfer Yanya appears to be a bit crazy to you don’t freak out because that’s just who she is – a free artistic spirit whose music delivers an adventurous and catchy take on indie rock. And that’s the sound that already brought her onto the stage with Interpol who hired her as support act last fall. In My Head is a first teaser of her anticipated debut album Miss Universe and it surely doesn’t disappoint. The craziness of the song and it’s theme are also represented in the accompanying music video as Yanya explains: ‘Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me and I get trapped. There’s the things I need disguised as things I think I only want, things I think I’m choosing out of choice not necessity. Sometimes this only becomes clear in retrospect, or maybe it will never become clear …some people may call that being paranoid. I think that¹s what I wrote the song about , but what’s interesting to me, and what I think I was trying to get at is the Illusion of freedom.’ All clear? Fine, so it’s time to fully embrace her sound right here. Miss Universe arrives on March 22 via ATO Records.
