There’s a difference between a good vocal performance and those special ones that really make time stop and captivate you from the first note till the last syllable is sung. And the performance of Rebecca Rose Harris definitely belongs into the second category. Her dulcet yet slightly dark voice delivers a fascinating performance on All One Breath, especially due to its combination with the delicate piano performance of her musical partner Franklin Mockett. Together the two Welsh musicians form the band Samana and with it they create a haunting mixture of psychedelic folk and minimalism. There’s something magical about this track, especially in its spare performance. According to the band it’s “a rumination of our interrelations with nature, and the impressions we carve on the world which surrounds us” and that sums up the mysterious nature of it pretty well. It feels like a wind howling through the trees on a cold winter day and that makes it a perfect tune for the current times. Guy Garvey of Elbow is already a big fan and named the band his artist of the year and if you don’t trust him, please trust good ol’ NBHAP on this one. A new Samana EP called Melancholy Heat is set for a release on February 17
