The Night Café – ‘Turn’

I can’t help it but even after twenty-five years of actively listening to music there’s still something that excites me about British guitar music every now and then. I know, there’s nothing innovative about Liverpool-based four-piece The Night Café and their latest single Turn but I couldn’t care less. It feels like it takes the best from the 90s and 00s, mixing Bombay Bicycle Club with The Smiths while also somehow reminding me a bit of Doves. I think Noel Gallagher once said you can get away with anything as long as your chorus is good and I’m pretty sure the Mancunian legend will appreciate what he’s hearing here – a melody destined to be stuck in your ear for the rest of the day. It’s a British rock anthem at its best and there’ll hopefully more waiting for me (and you) on their debut album 0151 which arrives on August 23 via AWAL Recordings/ Rough Trade.
