Three years ago, Swimming Lesson, the debut LP by French trio Camp Claude turned out to be a really wonderful hidden indie-pop gem so needless to say I’m really happy to get new material from the band fronted by distinctive singer Diane Sagnie. A new record called Double Dreaming arrives on March 8 and Old Downtown is a short yet very effective way of teasing it. It introduces a new simplicity to the atmospheric dream pop of Camp Claude, sounding like a fragile little piece of blues but recorded on a sunny day probably. It’s got that tender groove you might almost miss when not listening carefully so that’s definitely something I didn’t see coming.
