Matt Kivel – ‘L.A. Coliseum’

Matt Kivel has been a restless figure of the L.A. indie scene and it’s great to see him return with new solo material this spring. I mostly known him for the two great records he released with the band Princeton in 2009 and 2012 and I’m also a big fan of the work of his twin brother Jesse (50 perfcent of critically duo Kisses but he also released a solo EP last year). It’s kind of fascinating as Matt‘s voice and his music aren’t too far away from his brother’s music. L.A. Coliseum delivers tender laid back vibes with Americana influences and really great profound songwriting. That’s the Kivel sound that gets me everytime. The forthcoming LP last night in america is already his fifth(!) solo record and as I totally forgot to check out the other four I’ll definitely do this ahead of its release on May 10 via Cascine and Pedro y el Lobo. And I think you should too.
