This single Kil Scott is not as dark as the title sounds, even though the lyrics are in fact pretty sinister. Formed in Berlin, the five-piece People Club consists of international musicians with a shared love for soul music. And that shines through. The soulful single is tells the story of a gold digger waiting for her husband to pass away. Yet, the beat and the fuzzy, blurred guitar progressions are everything but dark. Reminding of contemporary Australian surf-rock, the guitar riffs are spiced with subtle violins and Sarah Martin’s vocals between laconic slurs and aching cries. Following the already pretty lovely Better these folks remain a promising new band to watch – the EP that also goes by the name Kill Scott is due on November 15.
