With the release of her critically acclaimed debut EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel last year, Holly Humberstone generated plenty of online hum thanks to her no-nonsense songwriting. The British born singer also proved that stripping a song back to its bare bones is often the best way to reveal the beauty hidden underneath, especially when paired with a voice as remarkable as hers. Sticking to that formula on her latest single, Haunted House, Humberstone keeps things simple and once again lets her vocals take centre stage. Written about the house she grew up in, she explains “the house is such a huge part of who I am, and my family, but it’s almost falling down around us now. Loads of people have probably died here in the past but I’ve always felt really safe. It’s like a seventh family member. It’s part of me.” It’s the first single to be announced from her upcoming sophomore EP, which will also feature a yet-to-be-released track Please Don’t Leave Just Yet, co-written by The 1975’s Matty Healy. With some pretty strong Bends-era Radiohead vibes emanating off of Haunted House, and a softly-lit yet sombre video to accompany it, it’s an exciting teaser of what lies ahead.
