Liverpool’s King Hannah is one of our favourite new bands at the moment but you should definitely know this by now. They’ve been one of our favourite artists to watch, we just interviewed them and we also really enjoyed last year’s debut EP Tell Me Your Mind And I’ll Tell You Mine. Now they return with new material but made quite a surprising choice. State Trooper is a cover of a Bruce Springsteen track from 1982 and Craig Whittle and Hannah Merrick once again delivered quite a fascinating piece of music. They managed to keep the raw intensity of the original intact which is a very reduced and raw piece of gritty blues rock. On top of it they added their gloomy magic to the song and added heavy drums at the end. King Hannah are really great at building up their songs, they give them time to unfold a hypnotizing maelstrom of dark heaviness. That also explains why their cover is almost twice as long as the original. We’re looking forward to more original material from these two over the course of 2021.
